Oil Alarm

Hello New here to the forum & I need some help. I was out boating yesterday in my Glasstream 15' bass boat with a 1984 Johnson 50 HP 2 stroke that was running fine. I came back to the dock to load it up & while idleing waiting on my trailer to be backed into the water, the engine cut off & when I tried to start it again the oil alarm came on. I still had over 1/2 a tank of fuel mixed 16 oz to 6 gallons of gas. I didn't try to start it because as soon as I turn the ignition on the alarm starting going off & I was afraid I might do some damage to a perfectly good running engine. Any idea as to what may have caused this to happen or where I should start looking to remedy the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

are you sure it was oil alarm?

low oil alarm is a beep every 30 seconds. beep......................beep...................

no oil alarm is a beep every 1/2 second or so.beep,beep,beep

overheat alarm is a constant beep.beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

Thanks for the reply. YES it was a steady beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. Not at all sure WHY this took place as the engine had been running just fine. I came into the docking area & cut it off until my trailer was backed in the water & then restarted the engine & it started just fine. As I was easing up towards the trailer it cut off & when I turned the ignition back on it started beeeeeeeeeeeeping so I cut it back off & loaded the boat by hand. I just came back inside from checking the alarm since it has set all night & all day without any running & the alarm did not come on. I have no idea why this happened or what might be the problem or where to start looking. Any suggestions?
