oil amount in gearbox

Can anyone tell me how much oil a 85 hp 1985 model johnson holds in the gearbox on a recent oilchange 450 mls came out and I put 450mls back in but no oil came out top hole, don't know what that is in US ounces , but we buy oil here in aus by halve litre (500) millilitre bottles and I spilt 50 ml so I don't know if my box is full or not any idea so I don't have to buy another bottle .

You never judge a re-fill amount, by what comes out. You usually don't get out, what is needed to re-fill. Just pump it in, till it runs out the top.

Are refilled it with 25 us ozs or metric 750 mls for those who were curious to know,found that the squess bottles are pretty useless had to top up from vent hole to fill as could not get all in by bottle, As there was only halve that amount came out I'd say last owner had trouble filling as well as there are no evidance of water in gearbox or a leak
