I disconnected my vro system on my 1998 175 evinrudes right out of the box, they have been running great (92 hours) one local omc mechanic advised me that the new detergents in todays gas makes it difficult for the oil and gas to stay mixed, even after trailering the boat and that I should connect the oil system. Anyone know about this? Thanks<br />Ps...I disconnected my vro systems cause I lost my last power head do to water in the oil tank, the vro wasnt the failure,I just feel more comfortable mixing myself and not having to check and service all the components involved, unless ofcourse there is truth to this new gas not mixing well. thanks again

Re: oil and gas mixing

That's a new one by me.I would think that if the detergent, as he puts it,would cause the oil to separate out over a time, then how does it mix so efficiently through the short contact time of the oil and gas using the VRO?That's just my thoughts anyway.

Re: oil and gas mixing

I would go by the instructions in the service manual and, the instructions on the oil container, unless the tech can show me a service bulletin or service letter from engine maker. The oil and fuel mix, when using the VRO your engine is pump into a small tank called a vaper seperator, before it goes to carbuators.

Maybe your mechanic is looking for one more(Yours) rebuild. Keep on mixing it yourself and ignore that ridiculous advice.
