Thanks this whole I/O volvo thing is new to me. I would like to do as much maintence as possable to save some money.

I just bought a drill-driven suction pump at NAPA for $15, which includes a hose set. The pump alone was only about $8. Hose goes down the dipstick hole and it got every drop out.

does it come with the thread attachment for the end of the dipstick tube.

I would venture to say that on any engine after, say 1980, that you do not have to put a seperate tube down the dipstick tube. The manufacturers finally learned to put the dipstick tube all the way to the bottom of the pan if inside the pan or an external dipstick tube attached to the bottom of the pan.
