23 ft. '95 Sea Ray - 5.0

How do I change the oil on this engine? Can't reach the plug on the bottom of the engine - if there is one? Sounds like I'd have to suck it up through the dipstick? Does that get it all? I don't see any other tubes or pick-ups. I really hate to have to put her on the trailer and take her to the marina to have to PAY $$$$$ for them to do it.
Didn't used to be a problem - just had 'em do it when they winterized. Now we go year round (to Florida) and winterizing doesn't happen!

Yup, you'll have to take it out of the dipstick. If you have a boating store nearby, you'll find several models of vacuum operated pumps. They come with long, skinny tubes to put in the dipstick.

My recommendation is getting a MANUALLY operated one where you have to pump it up by hand. I bought one that attaches to a drill (didn't work) and an electric (no go). Topsider makes a good one.

Also, on my 94 Volvo 5.0 the dipstick tube makes two *sharp* 90 degree bends, making it impossible to get all the oil out. I just did the best I could and got about 80% evacuated.

Look into the Jabsco Porta Quick Oil Changer Model 17800. It's used by all the pros I know. I love mine and even use it to change the oil in my trucks. It hooks right up to your battery and uses a dipstick tube or the threaded hose connector found on a lot of Marine dipsticks. It will run you about $130 - $150 but it is worth every penny.

a lot of the marine engines have male hose thread on top of dipstick tube and tube extended to bottom of pan. if so, just attach pump hose to that.
