I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the differences are between the normal 2 stroke outboard oil and the oil injection outboard oil. The next question would be what would happen if you ran normal outboard oil in a vro engine? I am not sure if I have done this but it is a strong possibility. 1989 200hp Evinrude. Any help would be appriciated...Jon

Re: oil differences for vro

VRO engines use the same oil, TC-W3, that other carbed 2 strokes use, Jon.

You might be thinking of Direct Injected engines like the FICHT, ETEC and Optimax. Some of them can use TC-W3, but most require a different spec oil because the oil is not carried through the crankcase by the fuel, so it must lubricate and cool without the gas to help it into the needed locations.

The Oil Doc can explain the requirements for DI oils a lot better than I can. Maybe he will drop in here. TOD, are you there?
