Re: Oil filters

sure
an even cheaper way,
gut the filter.
will last forever, screw it back on and never worry about it again.
use 20w50 oil and its good for life.
dont even think about filters, gear oil or water pumps and such.
they last for life as well.

Re: Oil filters

sorry to be rather short.
but.
I work for a yamaha dealer, dont have much experience, other than bad, with after market stuff and backyardigans.
I am all for saving money.
the specs for the yamaha required oil and filters are published.
as long as the specs are met and reciepts are kept there should be no issues.
I agree some of the yamaha stuff is rediculously over priced,
trust me, if your on a budjet skip every other oil maint and maintain the fuel and cooling systems.

Re: Oil filters

If you think the Yamaha filter is expensive check out the exact same filter from Mercury.

Re: Oil filters

thanks to everyone.I have gotten way more info than expected.i guess i should check archived threads on questions that may have already been discussed.im stickin w yamaha.I new the motor was more expensive when i bought it.I researched boats/motors for 2 years before buying and chose a 4 year old F90, 3.5 trs later I still think it was a good choice,I love it to death. if the filter is built like the rest of the engine, its likely overbuilt.and better than the others.I guess yamaha needs to make money on maint. parts because the motors last too long!!!But everything is more expensive today.or is it just me?
