Ran the 8Hp last night in a trash can to see how it runs. Seemed to work great. This morning I go out and notice a black small puddle under the prop on the floor. It looks like it was leaking out of the prop. Took prop off and noticed this gunk on the inside as well. It's very dark and smells like gas as well. I'm hoping this is unburned oil from the fuel. I'm using the amount recomended for break in 25:1 Please tell me this is all this is!! The motor is BRand new!

Joe

Also

For the heck of it I drained the gearcase oil. Looked like nice clean oil. Got it in one of the wifes measuring cups (yikes) anyway, looks to be about 5 oz. Granted I dupped some of it on the floor while draining, but when done, I had 5 Oz in the cup. The puddle was not pitch black, but very dark colored.

You are right with your first guess..its just breakin fuel that has not burnt and is running down the leg.

TMD

ditto. I had the same thing happen to me two years ago when I bought a new 6hp kicker. No worries.

I get this on my Old Merc when she's been sitting for a month and I run it with fresh fuel on the muffs.
Petrol smelling oil leaks down the leg, but stops after a week.
If it's gear oil, it would smell like gear oil which has a very distinctive pungent smell.
