Hi guys

A colleague of mine has oil leaking from his water intake in his sterndrive, particularly when he lifts the leg. Do you have any idea where this may be from?

Could it be from the remote oil reservoir??

Could it be a gasket leak, is it something which can be diagnosed?

Cheers

Not the reservoir. Pull the outdrive, drain the gear lube, pressure check the drive and listen and spray some soapy water in the front area of the drive. You can usually hear the leak.

As Don said, pressure test.

Oil from the water intakes can mean one (or more) of 3 places.
1. Shift shaft seal
2. top box lower seals
3. drive shaft seals (under the water pump).

Only a pressure test will determine exactly which...

Ayuh,.... As noted, more likely a seal, 'n easy to diagnose, once the drive is on the bench....
