I know this question has probably been asked before but i can't find the answer, I just purchased a boat with a '95 evinrude 50 hp outboard the original owner said he premixed the oil 100 to 1, I thought it should be 50 to 1 can you please help, he has run it like that for years but he may drive it differently than i will thanks for any assistance:

Re: oil/gas ratio

Did he tell you that before or after he sold it to you? I wonder why anyone would admit that sort of thing about an engine they were trying to sell. maybe it doesn't matter, but to me it would be like a guy trying to sell a car admitting he had a ridiculously long oil change interval. Usually we try to convince buyers we take good care of the stuff we're trying to sell, no?

Re: oil/gas ratio

Are we right to assume the vro has been disconnected cause if it isn't with a 100/1 mix and the vro he was probably running a rich oil mix. it would be a good idea to check your compression right now so you know where your start point is. Best of luck. Rick.
