I am trying to pressurize the lower unit on the out drive of my 1975 mercruiser so I can check for leaks but the air keeps coming out of the oil passage hole that feeds the top of the outdrive. Can someone tell me how to keep the air from escaping from this hole? Thanks. Bill

Re: oil hole leaks

Put a new quad ring between the upper and lower.

Ahhhh, that's even easier.

Put your finger over it. Or borrow someone elses finger. Or find a small rubber, tapered plug that will fit the hole.

So many call the whole drive a lower unit, it's just hard to know who wants what.

Thanks for the help Don. I will see if I can find a rubber plug to put in the hole. Thanks my friend. Bill

I've simply cleaned the area real good and used a small patch of clear packaging tape. Holds 15 psi rather nicely.
