I havent had good luck at all with POR 15 products over the past 12 years.

i would blast, weld in a patch, spot-blast the patch, then epoxy paint the pan.

No doubt for a permanent repair that would be the better option.

Good to know of the POR15, I have used it before, but never in a marine environment.

Have you ever used Corroseal or anything like it?

"Corroseal Rust Converter converts rust (iron oxide) into a stable substance, magnetite. It also primes the surface with a high quality latex metal primer at the same time. Corroseal truly provides one step corrosion control."

It looks like good stuff, but I haven't actually used it yet.

My hope if to have a temporary repair that will last the rest of the year.

Just because I'm sure you guys are dying to see how my hack oil pan repair is coming here is a short video.

After draining the oil pan I descaled all of the heavy rust, which had the most rust just aft of the drain plug. I sanded it all down, and cleaned with acetone. The worst pitting was confined to one area, but I went ahead and smeared as much jbweld over the bottom of it as I could as I figure it will protect from further corrosion and hopefully seal the leak.

I then replaced my drain plug with a fumoto F101N drainplug valve to facilitate future oil changes and filled it with oil. This thing is awesome and makes changes a breeze.

After a few hours I had a new drip forming. When I made this video I was convinced it was coming from the back vertical wall of the oil pan, but I was able to remove the plastic flywheel shield and put my hand on that part of the oil pan. Overall it felt fine, not oily, and not rusty. so I'm starting to think my drip is just coming from the drain plug. If that is the case it may be a simple matter of tightening the valve or perhaps using more teflon tape. Thoughts and comments are welcome or even a little mocking of my smeared jbweld job is fine too. As I've said before this is a short term fix. At the very least I am confident that I'm not on the edge of a catastrophic failure, so as far as that goes a few drips of oil in the bilge is tolerable even if it does make a mess.
