I have a Merc. 25- 2 cycle. I have been using quicksilver oil in it. I would like to change to a synthetic oil but would like to have a few questions answered. 1.when looking at a synthetic oil, I didn't see any TC-W2 rating. Do synthetics carry these ratings?? 2.Can I switch to a synthetic since my moter has about 200 hr. of usage?? 3.What is the name of a good synthetic oil I can use for my size outboard?? I troll alot in the summer months and would like to do away with all the carbon issues. Any info would be greatly appreciated - thanks

Re: OIL INFO

NO, they should still have the TCW-3 rating

Pensoil, or Amsoil

WRONG, you will still have some carbon problems, just not as much.

Re: OIL INFO

You want "TC-w3" certified oil...especially made for 2 stroke outboards. Go to the FAQ forum and read what is there about oil. I don't use synthetic 2 stroke oil myself for various reasons, but seems that most folks that use it like it just fine...

Buyer beware, Amsoil is NOT tcw rated.

Edit: No bashing, Bill.

Edit by BillP...Sloopy is a first hand example of my thoughts on "creative" advertising.

Sloopy:

Im an Amsoil Dealer, and your Amsoil ISNT!
It says, "Use where a TC-W3 oil is specified". Meets or exceeds TC-W3. It is a great oil, but isnt TC-W3 Certified. Rated, yes, Certified, No. I sure wish they would certify it, but I doubt it will happen in my lifetime.

Bent Prop, If the certification bothers you, Use Pennzoils Blend or Full synthetic, both good oils, also Klotz, Redline, Cam2, and Royal purple all have TC-W3 certified full synthetic PAO oils. I wouldnt use the klotz for trolling as I think it would be a better oil for racing at WOT.

Re: OIL INFO

Ahh I see it now lubedude, sorry bout' that :( I use the penziol synthetic blend, but I do occasionally use the synthetic amsoil 2 stroke. Is it ok to use it in an outboard? and why doesn't Amsoil see if they can get the tcw3 rating?

You can use the old 100:1 oil, the new saber 100:1 outboard oil, or the new HP Injector oil mixed at 50:1.

As to why they will not certify there oil, is beyond me, I wish they would. This has been hashed out here before, and I dont think we ever really solved the issue.

TC-W3 is an old rating, and even the new TC-W3RL isnt any real breakthrough as nearly any old TC-W3 will pass the test. We need a TC-W4 for synthetics.

Re: OIL INFO
