I talked to my brother in law yesterday regarding my new boat ('98 mirrocraft w/ 40hp mariner). He was saying some people recommend having the oil injection system "cut off" and just add the oil to the gas by yourself. He said beings it is a newer engine right now, not to get real concerned at the moment but it might be something to look into. what are your thoughts on this? Also what are some good signs to look for when the injection system might be failing and need repair, minus a siezed engine!

Your motor should have the metal gear inside instead of the plastic. Too new to worry about oil inj. failure now. Wait another 5 years or so!!! One sign that the warning module is failing is that it won't beep when the key is turned on which happened to me. I went to pre-mix and scrapped the inj. but my motor is 17 yrs old! (and still does 65+)

See my post under "oil pump removal" on Oct 5. My suggestion leaves all your injection components in place for reconnecting at a later time, but allows you to premix and avoid the worry about injection failure.

Re: Oil Injected Motors

Oil injectors are bad news if you ask me. My advise is if your motors no longer under warenty, take it off. What do you think would happen if your trveling on the lake at WOT, and your injector stops pumping and straight fuel is running through your motor? I say trust your own instinct, and always trust your own premix. These motors cost too much money to risk any chances.
