Re: Oil Injection Pump-Dismantled
How about Phenolic? I haven't looked at mine but I did remove the drive shaft several years ago and went to pre-mix. The phenolic, cut for gears, is a fabric reinforced carbolic acid resin that is extremely durable. I have seen gears made for other things that were many 10's of years old and were still in excellent condition. I overhauled my 1 ton Ford van once with the 300 cu in. L6 and guess what: The gear that drives the camshaft from the crankshaft (no chain on the L6 like on the V8) was Phenolic. No telling how many million units were produced.
I don't have a problem with it as a driver. The reason I went to pre-mix was because I had no way of knowing if it quit pumping, other than an engine siezure, and my engine had passed 10 years of age. I just feel better this way.
In looking at the precision parts and all, no telling what that baby sells for and how much it added to the cost of the engine.
