What kinda motor you got there Dave? On my '85 Merc 150 the dealer sold me a plug to take the place of the pump. Nilsson from Australia pointed out to me, that, on my motor, the pump was self oiling and would not behave well left empty.
Dave,<br />Ask your local Merc Dealer what the procedure is for your specific motor. When I brought up the subject on my older Merc the first thing the guy said was "disconnect it". One of the mechanics happened to be at the parts desk and told me how to do it. After all they are selling me whatever parts I need.
