I have a 2003 merc 90 hp 2stroke!I'm not a firm believer(or don't trust) the auto oil injection pump! Can I pre mix my fuel at 50 to 1 and fill the oil reservoir with pre mixed fuel!!

And still keep the warranty? No way, Jose!

The mix wouldn't provide nearly enough lubrication for the pump and you'd fail it for sure. That, and the constant agitation from the vibration of the motor would cause the mix in the tank to fill the cowl with explosive vapor until it went BOOM.

So, if you're so down on oil injection, why did you waste your money on a motor you don't feel that you can trust? Why didn't you go with a four-stroke?

The reliability of the newer oil injection pumps have come a long way over the years! I wouldnt change it! You wont be very happy with the smoking when you troll and at starup! If you run your engine at WOT most of the time Like on a Bass Boat it might be fine! If you decide to go with premix, you need to completly remove the injection system!!

Im concidering removing the oil injection from my 1987 Merc 150 because they have a history of failing when they get older due to a plastic gear on the crank, but I havnt done it yet!

Don't mess with it..... Maybe down the road when your out of warranty(as said earlier). The newer systems work much better.

99.9% of these run just fine for the life of the motor. You never hear from the owners of those. The ones you do hear from are the 0.1% that had one give them a problem, or "thought" they had one give them a problem.

People like to blame anything but themselves for a blown powerhead when in all likleyhood it was probably something they screwed-up all by themselves. If they were such a bad system, Mercury Marine would've gone bankrupt years ago from replacing blown powerheads. Take the negative comments with a grain of salt. Make that a block of salt.
