The pump adjustment only moves the transition from idle oil mixture to full throttle mixture. No matter where you adjust it, it still mixes the same at both extremes. It justs shifts the mixture in the middle by a thousand RPMs or so. Say, it transitions at 3500 instead of 2500. The kind of oil has the most effect on smoking. In very general terms, the cheapest smokes the most.
