Hi everyone, Im desperate for a little advice.

Took my bayliner 1991 185 out for the first time yesterday.

It showed full on the dipstick before.

When i got back there was clearly alot of oil in the hull under the engine...

Checked the dipstick and it now says to refill.

So there is a oil leak.

Ive attached 2 pics, the Black pipe isnt attached on the other end,Should it be??

Also this purple cable has come of its fixing??

Any help will be great.

Ayuh,... Did you Just buy this barge,..?? Without any survey,..??
My guess is you've been Taken,....
That custerfck Isn't supposed to be there...
There Should be a short tube going to the flame arrester to direct the crankcase vented fumes to the carb/ intake...
My guess is, the Blow-by is Sooo Bad it's being vented into the bilge to hide the fact...
The fact that the rings are Shot in the motor...
It's probably been severely Overheated...

Hi, Thanks for the response m8..

I bought it off ebay, And he had the receipts to show it has just been serviced, Plus had new parts..

So i took the chance..

It does run perfect, and cruised at 35mph no probs..

But from what your saying it doesn't sound good :-(

The black tube then, Should that be attached to anything?? or is it just a breather?

Also, any idea where the oil is coming from? Sump plug? or from that black tube? As it ws only in bottom.

Any help is great, But you've certainly made me think..

Ayuh,... As I already said, Yes, it's a Vent tube,+ the black tube should be attached to the top of the carb, at the flame arrester....
And, Yes, I have to Assume the oil is coming from it...

You're there, Go Look...

Someone tryed to make a old school draft tube, they were used on cars in the 30's and 40's to relieve the crankcase pressure. It's time for a rebuild!

time for a leakdown test.
only flaw in the downdraft plan is lack of air pressure in the bilge area.
a leak down test will show ring sealing ability.
that purple wire you knocked off the choke assy.

In your first picture, that plate stuck on the end of the purple wire is part of the choke itself and is broken off. You will have to replace the complete choke coil as it's no longer connected electrically inside the unit.

I would guess that your oil is coming from worn rings. Probably from freeing up and running a rusty engine that had water in it at one time. Boat engine seldom wear out from years of use.
As rodbolt states, a cylinder leakdown test is in order.
