I'm the proud owner of a 1999 Johnson 90 V4 and it runs great. However, today after coming home from am outing on the bay, I noticed an oil leak beneath the propeller while flushing the engine. Is this something I can fix or do I have to take it to a mechanic? Looks like a seal broke or is leaking. Thanks for any help.

Looks like normal unburnt oil draining from the exhaust. Does it have any smell? Check your lower unit for water, but I think it is normal.

I did go out to the barn and smelled the oil...it's dark brown and smells like exhaust. I was running most of the time at 1/4 throttle (just enough to get on plane) due to low tide and shallow water. I never opened it to full throttle. I suppose this could be the cause of the unburned fuel oil? Rarely do go that slow and today was the first time I saw this oil drip.

Thanks for the information. I feel much better now. I'll check the oil this week or before I go out again.
