Re: oil leak in lower unit out water pick up?
but it worked with out boggering it up like a screw driver (the ring). when u pull out the gear with the drive shaft go stright out cause its easy to get wedged same on putting back in,there should be a few shims in there also, or mine did. then i pulled the other gear out of the top what gos to the lower unit drive, then i pulled the lower off. the seals with the gear case up right i drove the lower seal out with a long flat head screw driver and then fliped the gear case upside down, drove the upper seal out. my seal kit should be here in a few days...but before when i put it back together i found out it is easier to put the lower unit on first and the top gear in the case will slide in a whole lot easier and line your drive shaft with gear up carefully cause it will get wedged easy so go in stright, and dont for get the shims, i am going to get the ring sung and take it to the shop and have them to toquork it to speks. and pressure test..... the way i plan on putting the seal in is the upper is to put it on the gear and shaft what gos there, line it up and oil it up and ceat it with a rubber hammer . the lower going to line it up and try to take the handle of a screw driver on the seal and tap it in. hope this helps this is my first time of doing this so it might be wrong but i think it will work will find out when get it pressure tested i guess.
well i used a old junk 1/2 inch wrench and hammerWhen I pressure tested my outdrive I found I had a lot of air coming out between the lower driveshaft and the oil seals in the upper, so I'm going to have a similar repair on my hands. Did you order the special tool to remove the upper retaining ring or did you use something else. Are there any tricks to putting everything back together after it's all pulled out to replace the seals?
