Oil Leak into bilge

Over the course of the summer I started noticing a small amount of oil in my bilge. Not even enough to register on my dip stick for the whole season but it does make the bilge messy. My engine is a 1999 volvo Penta 5.0 gi PWTR. Upon investigation I noticed that it appears to be comming from between the rectangular brass part where the dipstick tube enters and the oil pan. It is not comming from where the tube enters the brass part or the bolt at the bottom of the brass part. Is there anyone who can tell me how this brass rectangular part (if you know its name please inform me) is attached to the oil pan? Can it be removed after the dip stick tube is removed, maybe by unscrewing it? There does seem to be some corrosion between the brass part and oil pan. Below is a photo showing the setup. If I can remove the part is there any gasket material I can add to stop the drip? Thank you for any suggestions which will help me make this repair.

Yes you need to drain the oil first. Then clean it up and reinstall with new fiber washers or aluminum if that's what it came with. It is a banjo fitting.

Re: Oil Leak into bilge

Thank you for the information about repairing the oil leak. I went ahead and ordered the sealing ring, the washer, and the o-ring to install. I am a little worried though that the hollow screw may have a crack and that may be the reason for the drip. If the hollow screw brakes off at the point where it enters the pan I want to be prepared. I am ordering a new hollow screw just in case. If the hollow screw breaks off what would be the best way to get the section which is still in the oil pan out without removing the whole pan or having to get a new one? Thanks.

If it does break (never seen it happen in 20+yrs in the biz) Then the pan is prob so rusty it should be replaced anyway! 'nutcase
