Today while installing my Mobster Tabs on my boat, I noticed some oil leaking just above the plate just above the anti-ventilation plate. If I am not mistaken, this is where the lower unit and the rest of the motor come together. In the back of the motor right above this "plate" there is a little hole. That is where a small amount of oil was found. I also found oil on the transom saver which was installed at the time. I leave the motor with the transom saver on it while it's not in use. It was enough oil to drip off the motor, lightly coat the top of the transom saver, and drip on the ground even though the spot on the ground was real small. Is there a problem with the motor?? I put the motor in the upright vertical position and pulled the oil level plug on the lower unit. The hole was very small but I couldn't see any oil at the level of the hole. That's how you are supposed to check the lower unit oil, right? It should be right there when you pull the plug, shouldn't it? I checked the motor oil and it was just where it has stayed since it was new so I am guessing it is gear oil that I found. Should I get the dealer to look at it?

Also, what weight or viscosity oil should I put back in the lower unit to top it off? And, does anybody know an easy way to get the oil in there?

I would appreciate any help you all could give me. Thanks.

It's still under warranry. Take it back. Fidget and risk voiding the warranty.
