Hi all
I am interested in purchasing a small inflatable with a 40hp Mercury 2 cycle engine. I live in South Africa.
I have noticed an oil leak just under the carb, which leaks to the tray and accumulates, its about two tablespoons worth of black oil. No fuel/water that I can see in the oil. The motor looks to be in good condition, starts after 7-8 tries after not being started in a month. And then starts first time when warm. The seller says it was serviced early December 2007. Attached are some pics....
He reckons its normal, that because the motor was stored at a 45 degree angle, the oil leaks through the exhaust... or through the carb...
My knowledge on boat engines is not existant. I know about car motors. And I have only owned one 2 cycle motorbike, which never leaked oil.
Anyone got any ideas?
