There is exhaust oil leaking out of the top front drain hole (in the transom direction) on the lower unit on my 1985 115 Evinrude, is this normal? I now it is normal to have it come out around the prop, but I am not sure how it would be getting there.

Re: Oil Leak

Some pics of a lower unit apart would be great too, if it is possible. I would like to be able to see how the top of it (where it meets the mid-section) looks so I can see how oil would get around.

Re: Oil Leak

You may have some missing or just worn out rubber gaskets on the inner exhaust housing. This would allow oil laden exhaust to enter the lower cavity and weap out of the cavity drain.

Re: Oil Leak

Thanks, Is it a really major problem if this gasket is not there or has gone bad? Also, where would you find a replacement?
