This is a 1976 35 hp evinrude. I have this oil coming from this hole in the lower unit and its engine oil. There is also oil coming out of the exhaust also unburnt engine oil. my first question is what is that little hole for and second does this just mean it is not burning all the fuel mixture? And is it bad?

Re: oil leak

You are correct it is unburnt two stroke oil and no it isn't bad. Not all the oil gets burnt in the combustion process.

ok good. I'm still wondering what those holes are for because when you hook up the muffs water comes squirting out, but no exhaust when it is running. just curious how unburnt oil comes out because it seems like it should just be a place for water.

Re: oil leak

Those holes are to allow any water that will be inside the exhaust housing (not gearbox itself) drain out.

If it does not drain & you live in a area that freezes in the winter, your housing may split. These holes are the lowest area of the inner area of the exhaust housing. Since your motor has not burned all the oil in the fuel it settles inside the exhaust housing.

Many times the reason it has not burned is the engine is not getting hot enough to aid in total combustion, like idling a lot, or the thermostat is stuck open.
