Hi,
i am new to powerboating and have recently brought a Fletcher speedboat with a 1989/90 3 Cylinder 60HP mariner engine. I started it up with flush muffs attached and ran it to check if o.k. After switching it off i noticed 3 problems. Can anyone tell me which (if any) is normal and which i should consider a fault. The first was a film of black oil floating on top of the flushing water which ran down my yard and collected on the gravel. The second was after switching off about a tablespoon of fuel dripped out of the carbs. and the third a creamy grey oil slowly ran out from behind the prop for about 30 seconds. Are any of these Normal for a two stroke 15 year old Outboard? Please help! Thanks. Mick

its all normal considering its flooding.
if the fuel was driping with the motor level its time for a carb job. do the fuel pump at the same time. the black film is unburned fuel the whitish milk,if it smells like gas, is fuel/oil mixed with water. what does the gear case oil look like ?

Hi,
Many thanks. The engine was slightly tilted up (Only about 10 degree)the fuel did not leak when running (only after switching off). How would i check the condition of the gear case oil on a mariner (sorry if this sounds dumb but as i said i am totally new to boat ownership and any extra help would be appreciated. Thanks. Mick
