Greetings,

After my last outing, during my spray down, I noticed some oil coming off of the main cylnder heads (see arrows)... It appears to coming out of the valves of some kind. I mix the gas:eek:il at 24:1 and I've been using 87 octane gas...

There is not alot of oil, but enough to spark my interest. Nothing seems to be wrong with the engine, but this didn't happen my first few trips out. What do you think? Thanks.

Those are the compression relief valves. Make sure there is about .010" clearance between them and the slotted screw/locknut that push them open. And make sure the recoil starter is allowing them to close. The recoil starter opens them when you pull the rope to make it easier to hand start. They are not seating perfectly, the reason for the oil getting past them. They don't seem to be bad enough to worry about. I've seen the paint get burned off the relief chamber when they leak badly (the bulgy thing to the right of the spark plug).

Just a curiosity question - do you start this engine often using the recoil starter?

Jay,

The motor has an electric start, which is always used. I've actually never started the motor with the pull starter, but I have recently pulled it (half heartingly) to make sure it spun the flywheel.

Maybe this is why there is some new oil there? Thanks.

i think, ya'll just hit the nail square on the head. may need adjustment checked, and being used after who know how long.
