On a 1999 25 HP Johnson, I've noticed a dark oil slowly leaking out of the gearcase between the propeller and the gearcase. The oil is very dark. Is this gear lube? What's the likely cause of this kind of leak?<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Kent
Probably unburnt oil from the cylinders Kent. If it smells burnt and is thick and very dark, that's probably what it is. With the motor down, the oil just runs down the exhaust and out to ground.
