Re: Oil mix

According to this calculator I found online. Your calculations are right. Give it a try. http://www.csgnetwork.com/oilfuelcalc.html

Not sure about the correct ratio. Someone else should be able to answer what ratio is appropriate.

5 gallons of fuel mixed at 24:1 should require 26.6oz of oil.

Two stroke oil containers generally have a fuel/oil mix table printed on the label.

It's a lot easier to buy a 6 gal. tank. That would take a full quart to make up the mix. That's what I do. I have a 6 gal. tank, which I use to fill the smaller tank in my boat. When it's empty, I fill it up again. It's really easy to dump a full quart of oil in the tank than to try to measure a smaller amount.

Easy formula is:

Gallons of gas X 128 / 24 (or whatever ratio you want, last number would be 50, if it was 50:1)

Even in a 5 gal. can, keep it simple. Just dump in a quart of oil. Originally, specification was to use 16:1 in a 1956 anyway. It was revised later to 24:1 with a service bulletin. It'll smoke a bit more, but there's nothing like the smell of outboard to go with a cup of coffee in the morning.

Re: Oil mix

I bought a plastic bottle at Wal-Mart that shows the gallonage of gasoline and the appropriate amount of oil for different ratios. All you do is figure out how much gas you're going to buy, find the column with the ratio you need, and fill the bottle with oil to the right mark. Works for me since I don't always mix the same quantity. Pretty sure I found it in their marine dept. with the outboard accessories.
