Joe Reeves posted that a 55 sea horse 25 HP motor should run 50-1 ... my 59 35 Sea Horse is a 24-1 motor, and Im not sure what the 66 40 horse is supposed to be ... would playing it safe and running them both at 24-1 coke em up or would todays better oils be a safe bet at 50-1?

The 50:1 thing is debated. In my limited experiance, I could never find any difference between a '64 (24:1) and a '65 (50:1) roller bearing OMC. Some claim it's just the better oils that allowed it. However, I think it was JB who once pointed out the longetevity of those engines running 24:1 - there's still _lots_ of them around.
Long story short: I doubt 24:1 will coke up your 66 any worse than it cruds the '59 engine. Also, there are other options, like running 32:1.

lol, sleep is overrated, I get to sleep a LONG time when Im dead!

well, lemme see, the 59 35, the 1960 40 horse parts motor with a good power head but no cylinder head, the 66 40 horse running mate for the 35, (the other part of The Twins), the 71 125 Johnson, the 61 10 horse aux, and of course, the 215E 302 mercruiser, brand new Ford 302 that is .... and an outdrive made of unobtainium!!!

hmmmmmmm .... well, my grandfather ran em heavy his whole life, 30 wieght oil, man never rowed except for exercise, and used to spray water in em to decoke em, then would beat the **** out of em, lol, full throttle once around the bay

"boy, mind yer line, yer about to get a bite"

damned if I didnt

I dont know how he did that, lol

maybe its better I dont

:)

Ill just run em 24 to 1, quart to a 6 gal tank, and use deep creep every other year or so

Personally, I think they took more pride in craftmanship, they didnt let these blasted puters with their CAD parameters set to maximum profit design the motors, men that loved to go boating designed them to go out, and come back home

in my ever so humble opinion, anyway
