Oil not pumping from resevoir tank to main tank

I have twin 150 HPDI 2002 motors, just had service on the motors prior to out trip over to the Bahamas. About 10-15 minutes into the trip the alarm for low oil goes off so I pump a gallon of oil into the reservoir tank, and I continue on the journey. I notice the the 3 bars on the tach are on and soon after the 3 bars start flashing and alarmgoes off again. I open the cowling and the level is at the lower limit on the main tank, I tried the manual switch and did not seem to pump oil into the tank, so I opened the main tank and manually filled the tank.

Please help with instruction on where I could start checking for what the problem could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I searched but did not see any with the same issues that I have where the manual switch does not pump. I will keep looking...

Thanks for the help...

Re: Oil not pumping from resevoir tank to main tank

You may have a bad pump but more likely the screen in bottom of oil tank(in boat) is clogged, oil has to go thru this screen to be pumped out to engine's tank....the main tanks should be cleaned out every season or two.....you have to REMOVE them from boat, empty completly(bet you see some sludge then(hard to see till then) and the screen cleaned....be very careful with the little rubber grommet on tube, it falls into tank easily and will
also clog the tube. You should clean other tank also(other motor's main tank).

Added note: after you put all back together don't forget to PRIME the oil lines before running motor to remove air and fill with oil. Take tiny air bleed screw out of oil pump(left side of engine, down low at linkage) and remove linkage from oil pump. Simulate full throttle at oil pump and turn engine over with key but kill switch pulled out so won't start. You need to let oil run out for a minute all in all to get air out. VERY IMPORTANT. then re-assemble

Re: Oil not pumping from resevoir tank to main tank

Appreciate the comment, I am going to clean out the tanks per your suggestion, but i would like to also test the pump and electrical signals to the pump while I am in there. These tanks have not been cleaned in 4 years. I was researching and could not find where is the best place to check for the voltage, and how to test the pump itself. More to come...

Re: Oil not pumping from resevoir tank to main tank

Here is what I have done so far, removed the remote tank from the boat, removed the oil from the tank, removed the strainer, and removed the pump. I am not sure where the rubber gromet is attached? I am not sure where the prime needs to be, if between the main tank and reservoir, or after the main tank to the motor? I also tested the pump by connecting directly to 12volts. It seems to be stuck. I took it appart (removed the 4 screws and cover plate) and moved the gears with my finger nails. I then connected to 12volts and the pump turned the gears for a few seconds and stopped again. Repeated a few times with the same results. I think this means that the pump is bad...
