Hi everybody, I have a question regarding my oil press gauge. The current one i have on my 2001 aquasport 205 osprey is mechanical. I'm currently replacing all the gauges on it. But the one i got is electrical. And it comes with a sending unit. Question is where do I install it on my Mercury 150hp motor? Thank you

Re: Oil press gauge?

Is this a 4-stroke outboard or and I/O? If an outboard, I find it hard to believe an oil pressure gauge in 2001 was mechanical. And if it's a two-stroke, there isn't any oil pressure to measure! Anyway, the electrical sender obviously goes in the same hole from the which the mechanical gauge tube was connected. And are you sure your original gauge is for Oil pressure and not a Water pressure? Just asking questions!

Re: Oil press gauge?

Thanks silver tip, I have to take a second look at it cause usually they have a brass line going to the gauge and it doesnt. It has a what looks like a vacuum hose connected to the back, with a wire strap holding it on. I'll take it off and see what comes out. My merc is a 2001 2stroke 150 carb. It def. an oil gauge 0 to 80 psi.
Thanks again.

Re: Oil press gauge?

Think about it! What oil pressure can you monitor on a two stroke? the answer is none, because two strokes use oil mixed with fuel for lubrication. There is no presurized lubrication system. Someone apparently has used an oil pressure gauge to provide a WATER pressure (water pump pressure) indication. If that's what they did, you won't get any water out of that tube either -- or very little. That tube is hooked to the water jacket on the engine. Water pressure compresses air in the tube to make the gauge read. Water does not actually flow through the tube. Teleflex makes Water Pressure gauges for that function (0 - 30 PSI).

Silvertip you are the man. I just got home and I had to take another look at it. Ur right its not an oil press gauge. Its a water press. o to 30 psi. Man I love this site. Now I have to take back the oil press gauge and sender i bought and get the right one. I guess I must of seen my friends boat and for some reason thought I had the same. Thanks again ;)
