I recently purchased a 1993 Javelin 20' bass boat with 1993 Merc 175 hp engine... Had new water pump and thermostats put on and everything was running perfect one day and the next day I loaded wife, kids, and dog in boat and started her up and she was wide open on the throttle, finally got the idle shut down but a no oilm beep beep beep constant started and could not get it to stop. Checked oil resivor on both engine as well as reserve in battery area....both full..... finally decided to unhook alarm and put 50-1oil mix in tank full of gas and pulled off the squeeze bulb for the gas right at the front of the engine and poured some 2 cycle oil into the hose to make sure she wasn't getting raw gas to the carbs and tried her out on the water. She smoked as suspected but would never run faster than idle she was fast idling and doing all kinds of weird stuff. Local shop said it might be the gear that drives the oil pump and to not try running it until they can take a look at it in 3-4 weeks.......our summer might be over by then here in st. louis.....,. will the protective system in the engine keep her from running after unhooking all oil hoses to the engine and not let her run on a pre mixed tank of gas? Everything I've read is to make sure she has pre mix in the tank if you are going to try to run her with a oil sensor going off until you can detrime the problem. What would I have to unhook to get this thing to run without the oil pump? Could I do more damage than good trying to fit it myself? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
