I recently bypassed the oil pump on my 89merc 150 xr4 and now premixing. I was wondering if the alarm was still going to go off and if so how do I bypass or fool the system so the alarm will go out. I left the shaft in the drive for the oilpump does this matter. Thanks for any ones help.

Re: oil pump alarm system

If you take the pump driven shaft out, you need to replace it with a dummy plastic piece to keep the bushing on the far end from coming loose. A shop manual will show which alarm wires are associated with the oiling system, and which are for the temp alarm. On mine, I think removing a blue wire from the terminal block on the stbd side of the engine disabled the oiling alarms, but my motors are 1995 150's.

Thanks for replying Wildeone.
Where would I get one of these dummy plastic pieces. Is that blue wire the one that provides 12v to the alarm module.

Try here for the plastic dummy shaft:

http://www.rickracers.com/

I think the blue wire only disabled the oil alarms, but my memory could be faulty.
