Why don't you put all your posts on the same subject in the same thread? There are at least 3 on this one topic.

It takes a major teardown to replace the plastic gear on the crankshaft. There is an electric aftermarket VRO pump that is very nice, and considering labor much cheaper than fixing the original. If you are in a bind, you can always mix your fuel 50:1 in the main tank and run like that.

It's always a good idea to remove the pump and make sure it's all free and looking good as a spring setup task. They most often fail when they gum up in storage. First crank on the engine shears the gear.

Serviced regularly and run under 6500 rpm, they seem to last forever.

hope it helps

If you remove the pump, you should put in a block off kit that holds the bushing in place, else it may fall into the engine which will get serious indigestion trying to chew it up.

Marine solutions makes the electric pump kit. Highly recommended.

If you want to premix your fuel, here's instructions for removing the oil injection system completely.

The kit is about ten bucks at Mercury.
