I bought an old boat this spring and tried to start the motor for the first tiem yesterday and had no luck. It just cranked and cranked with no avail. I think i need to empty out the old gas and put in fresh gas and change the plugs (they look old). If the new gas/plugs do not work, I am not sure what to look for next (I am new to boat motors), should i pull out the plugs and crank the motor and check for spark at the end of each plug that i have removed? any suggestions? thanks

50 hp merc 4 cyl, 1960's vintage. 60's vintage glastron 15.5ft fibreglass.

Check for spark first. If that's good, rebuild the carbs, as I'm sure they are gunked up. As a starer, shoo some pre-mix ino he carbs from a sparay bole and see if it tries to fire. If so, that would comfirm the carb needs a cleaning and rebuild..

any engine diagrams online that would show me where the carb is and where to spray that stuff into? no manual.
