Re: oil ratios
Which Evinrude website would that be? BRP, Evinrude, OMC, Johnson.?
Frankly, you can do whatever you wish with your older johnnyrudes. The word from OMC was to use 24:1 on those 1950's outboards and 20:1 for the earlier ones. For the really old ones, 16:1 and even 12:1 is appropriate.
It's your outboard, though. Do whatever you want. But...please don't tell others what they should do with theirs. The original information on the 50s johnnyrudes is 24:1. I can guarantee that's safe. 50:1
might be safe on some, but I sure wouldn't advise it. And, I'm sure, owners of these vintage outboards won't appreciate it being advised when their plain bearings fail.
Do what you want with yours. Leave the decision to not follow the manufacturer's recommendations to others to decide. You'll find many here who recommend 24:1 for all engines that originally used that ratio. I'm among them. Oil's cheap. Rebuilds aren't, if they're even possible on some models.
