I have a 1995 115 ocean runner, that has a lot of oil residue coming from the carb openings after the motor has been sitting in tilt for a period of time..

i guess it was gas but the gas evaporated and I am left with the oil film all over the front of the motor and it drips down inside the cowling and onto the transon bracket..makes a mess

I use premixed gas..and no oil tank and the oil line is plugged .

is there something wrong?

if not is there anything I can do to prevent it?

i figure it has to do with the carb bowls and the motors tilted angle..

but it has to be dangerous to have that gas dripping everywhere..and then the sticky mess when it evaporates...

not sure why its leaking but the oil in the premix wouldnt evap that easy, thats the oil you see,its from your premix, your prob right about the tilt and the bowls,is it poss one of your floats are sticking open?it would drain your bowl eventually by the evap,,,,and tilt

Your engine is a later model-a more current design. It should be less susceptible to this. You may want to check the floats in the carbs for proper height adjustment. Also, if your engine has plastic carb bowls, these can tend to warp over time causing a poor seal at the carb body and may leak at the bowl seal when tilted. Lay the bowls upside down on a flat piece of glass to check them for flatness.

wel the motor runs great...so i wouldnt have thought mis adjusted carbs..

but then again, i didnt know, thats why i posted.

it seems to be comign out of the throttle openings...and runs into the air box, and drips from the airbox...

if the bowls are full, the float has to keep the seat open!!!!...I usually only tilt the motor so my home made transom saver can fit under the LU

and that is still in the trim travel..not even close to the tilt travel!!

There should be a nipple at the bottom of the air silencer on your 115 with a hose that goes from there . Taking oil from the carbs back to the crankcase. See that it's hooked up. Otherwise it will dump oil from the silencer onto the bottom of the cowl ,when tillted up.

Re: oil residue coming from carbs while tilted

actually that wasnt connected...there is up top that was...then after I had the air slincer of, i noticed the other one on the other side...

but that doesnt explain how i got oil all over the front of the motor...the wires in and around the carbs, the fuel line was soaked...

maybe the rubber tubes were not seated well against the carb openings.

thanks for the tip

so the oil is normal...it just isnt supposed to get out!!
