I have a newly rebuilt 70hp 1984 Johnson. And I have noticed that when it is hot, or the engine runs a lot, there is like an oil residue on the bow side of my engine where the power tilt is. What is this caused by and is it serious?

JAZZ

Typicaly these engines drip and spit some fuel from the carbs... The air silencer that is attached in front of of the carbs, has a place at the bottom underneath the bottom carb for a tube (approx 1/4" I.D.) that connects to the crankcase to drain any excess fuel that my drain out into the air silencer... Check to see if the tube is connected and in good condition... ;)

Snapperbair or anyone else,
Could this be the same problem with my 1986 135hp Black Max Merc. Ive always had this problem, just a small amount of oil comming out, it nothing major, matter of milliliters, if anything just annoying and messy.
