My suzuki DF 200 (2005) shut down the other day while I was under way. I was cruising at about 4500 rpm when all of a sudden it sputtered, the oil light came on, then all of the lights and it shut down. We could see oil leeking out into the water, so we pulled off the cowling. Oil was all over the top of the engine, and it appeared to have lost 2 or more quarts.
Got towed in...inspected the engine out of water. No noticeable blown gaskets or seals, no cracks in the block. Oil seemed to have blown out through the vent hoses near the throttle bodies.
Does anybody have any ideas???? Could a clogged pcv valve cause this??? without warning????
The oil was changed less than 60 hours ago and I have put 1800 hrs on this engine since I bought it brand new....never had a problem like this....
Also, the engine is not seized and the spark plugs are mint

I heard that these symptoms could be caused by sticking valves and now there may be valve damage. Could this be true???

Check the PCV valve for blockage, check the hose for blockage, crimp hose, correct routing.
If hose has signs of lots of fresh oil, check baffel in hose connection to block, its in the valve cover I think. The baffel has a drain hole, must be open. Drain some oil check for metal

Any code flashing on tach with key on.

Re: oil spewing out of suzuki DF200

Hey Clanton,
thanks for the advice, and no I am not getting any codes. I just talked to the people working on my boat and they say that they think that they found the problem...a hole in the oil filter caused by a tool or something...and they are trying to put the blame on me. I will not let them. I noticed a ding on the oil filter when I got the boat back a couple weeks ago and didn't think much of it but now I wish i had said something to them. So now they are trying to put the blame on me for that or they are trying to cover theyre buts....I will be talking to the service manager today and will give an update...
thanks
