I am rigging the new to me Mariner 135 (1993) on the boat. The oil tank I got did not come with any hose or connections. I think I can deduce how it is set up from the manual but was wondering how far away from the motor it can be. I have a pilot house roughly 16' away from stern. It would require about 20' of tubing. Is this too far from the motor to supply a good reliable stream of oil to the pump? Does the presure pump have what it takes? Sugestions?

They way I understood it the primary resivoir is pressurised by "crankcase pressure" forcing the oil up to the secondary resivoir. I was also told the oil pump is driven by a plastic gear (sort of like a timing belt on a toyota) I guess they were too reliable the old fashined way. Anyway I'd put the resivoir where 99.9% of them are, near the outboard. not in the house

I checked the shop manual and the owners manual and neither one specifies a distance at which the reserve tank must be located. Unfortunately if I mount in stern it will see weather and abuse. Can I rig this tank in the house and check presure somehow?

Re: oil tank setup 93-135HP

I ran a crab boat for 7 years with the oil tank mounted in the stearn floor (exposed to the weather and the crabs), and had no problems with it. The only bad part was making sure that the top of it was clean before adding oil. I eventually made a stainless steel box to cover it. It was recommended to mount it close to the motor, because the pressure build-up would be to slow with an extended hose.

Hey guys how long are the factory oil hoses that come with the tank?

As mentioned I didnt get that with the motor. Cool...this is going on a lobster boat (crab similar) and crap gets everywhere.
