Oil vent hoses

Is it normal for my oil vent hoses that connect to the flame arrestor to leave an oily residue in my carb? I'm constantly having to clean the carb, does that hurt performance at all? They also seem to clog up the arrestor quickly. I do have the correct amount of oil in the crankcase, so it's not overfilled.

Sure, it's normal. The more blowby past your rings, the worse the oil in the flame arrestor and carb.

So, is this something I need to correct or just leave it alone? Should I clean out the carb as much, or just make sure my arrestor is clean so that I get the right airflow?

I think what he is saying is that you are getting more than normal blowby from the piston rings (i.e., piston ring wear). Maybe time for a compression test.

So at what point do I need to be concerned? Is performance suffering because of this?

Ayuh,......
The above mentioned Compression Test will give you an Idea of your motors condition.......
If the #s fall to 100psi or so,...... It's Real Tired,+ won't perform as a Healthy motor.......
150psi,+ Up, Across the board is a Healthy motor........
