Took her out to the lake today to try to get stripers and got a few miles out, saw the temp top out and the oil pressure go low. When I noticed that, I shut her down and opened the engine cover. To my horror, I saw emulsified oil boiling in a pool between my Holley 4BBL and the valve cover. Then just about cried watching it drip all over the port side of the engine, down into the bilge.

Luckily, I got her back on the trailer and back home.

Think the block is salvagable? Carb? I'm sure a rebuild is in order, but just wondering if I should rebuild her or just go get a new one (not that I can "just go get" a new one... It's going to take a LOT of side work either way.

Just thought I'd share my loss today! Be safe out there!

It was 28 degrees this morning. I haven't pulled the dip stick yet. I was just too sick, so I drained the water (again) and put her up. (BTW: I had drained the water before the freeze)

I'm not just going to run out and buy another engine. I think I just posted while I was still "sick" about the whole thing. Sure is awful to see "milk" running off of your engine. A

What should I do while I wait to pull it apart? (It's going to have to wait until next weekend to tear her down)...

I understand,.....

Pull the Oil drain,...... If there's Water in there,... You want it Out......
so I drained the water (again)
Exactly,...... How,+ Where do you Drain the system,..??...
Did you get Good Flow from All the drains,... Each time you've drained it,.??...

I'll go drain the oil now. I have a block drain, aft/port side. Block drained perfectly - good strong flow. Exhaust mainfold drained slow until I ran a paperclip into it, rust, then really good flow. That didn't concern me since I have seen so many refering to this in many "winterization" posts.

I'll be right back. I've got some oil to drain, (hopefully just oil)...

Okay, I just drained her....

Chocolate milk is all that came out. Man, am I depressed.

One note worth mentioning... When I was running her, there was no oil in the exhaust. Not one drop in the water.

But that oil pan sure had water... Oh well...

I await your miraculous $25 repair reply! HA!!!

I just had to make myself laugh...

Probably from last time he was out he came in after catching stipers all day and drinkin a beer for each striper. He decided to check the oil and was so hammered when he went to add oil he poured it all over the engine. Then he left the boat and it rained and a little water got on the manifold and of course he has no memory of adding oil so he's crappin his pants now. 'Course it could be there's water in the oil from a riser or manifold and the breather spewed a little on the manifold and now he's crappin in his pants 'cause he's sure it has something to do with the vague memory he has of spilling something all over his engine which was probably his lunch.
Reminds me of the poor guy who yanked the engine out of his wifes car, tore it down and couldnt find anything wrong, put it all back together totally mystified as to why there was water in the oil. Then one day he's talking to her and she says she has no windsheil washer fluid despite adding all kinds of water. he says show me where you add it, she points to the oil fill cap.

A compression test is a good starting point.

Ayuh,......

Actually,.... I'd Start with a Leak-Down Test,.......Of the Cooling system, Not the Cylinders.........

Isolate the Engine Block from the rest of the Cooling System,+ Add about 10psi of Air,.........

You'll be able to "Hear" the Leak......
