2 months ago I purchased a new Bayliner Capri 160 BR, with a 2003 90hp merc OB. When I picked up the boat I bought 1 gal. of oil from the dealer, Mercury premium 2 stoke oil. I now need some more should I keep using this oil or should I switch to something less expensive? I have seen the other post which recommend penzoil. If I do switch oils do I need to drain the oil that is in the resivoir? Does anybody know where to pick up a repair manual for a 2003 90hp Mercury outboard I can only find up to 2000. Thanks for all the help in advance.

Re: oil?

Howdy, Blindman.

You can get the Quicksilver oil at Walmart a bunch cheaper than at your dealer. You can also get Wal-Mart's brand, SuperTech, which is made and bottled by Pennzoil a lot cheaper than that.

You wont need to drain what's in your tank. Just add the new oil.

Try iBoats or Ebay on the manual.

Good luck. :)

Re: oil?

For what it is worth - the last place I would try to economize is with oil. While I hold in high respect JB's advice I would stick with one of the premium brands with a known lable on the container. The chance that you might take in going the Wal Mart or any other route may be small but I would follow the recommendations in your owners manual to protect the warranty if for nothing else.

Re: oil?

I have used Wal-mart brand SuperTech for past 4 years on my new 175hp rudes. I have never had a problem with the SuperTech oil. Pick up the Pennzoil & the SuperTech & read the descriptions, they are exactly the same. The only difference is price? What are you willing to pay?
