New to Volvo Penta. 4.3 according to whats on the dipstick,or on the sticker."cant remember where I read it " But it says synthetic oil....
I Purchased used and don't know what type of oil that was used.....Should I use synthetic ? or is there any way to tell what's in it

if you just bought the boat, you should probably change every fluid, the raw water pump, and probably the belts.

then follow the manual and put in synthetic oil, or 15-w40 diesel oil, or straight weight oil...... BTW, there are way too many oil threads.


and no, short of a forensic diagnostic laboratory, there is no way to tell what is in your used boat unless you put it in.

The previous owner said he just had it serviced, What ever that means, the oil looks good. But Like you I'm thinking it best to change it. so I'm guessing it's ok to go with synthetic ? and the raw water pump? that's the pump at the front of the engine right ?
