I use a 2.2 mercury for trolling at very slow speeds. Every 20 mins or so I have to change and clean the spark plug due to it oiling up. Is there anything I can do to prevent this or at least troll for a longer time. thanks

Or less oil. If all you do is run near idle, you can probably get away with 100:1. Don't push the RPMs too far, tho. They need a richer mixture anywhere above 1/4 throttle. They can get by with less at lower RPMs because the burn isn't as complete as at higher RPMs. Less burned fuel means more oil to the internals (and exhaust).

Check your carb settings--is the idle mix set too rich? Or is the float set too high? Be careful not to lean it out too much.

You could try every 15 mins knock it into nutural and rev it up a bit to burn the **** of your plug. As the others mentioned you could try 1 range hotter plug if you always use it for trolling OR try a bit less oil I wouldn't go past 75:1 just incase you deceide to rev it a bit. What octane fuel are you running, maybe try a lower octane fuel to obtain a more complete combustion. Can you run a smaller/less pitch prop, this will free up the engine a bit from labouring, allowing a couple more revs for the same speed; just be carfull if you deceide to go for a run not to over rev the engine.

You may try using one or more of the ideas mixed together.

You can also change the gap from 030 ---to 040 for trolling ,plus a hotter plug at 040 would work well either way change the gap to 040
030 gap is better high speed
EDIT: sorry you should alredy have it at 040
NGK #BPR6HS-10
