Now a question I have..The motor is a short shaft. My 70 HP is a long shaft. Can I run the little short shaft 7.5 as a kicker/trolling motor or will I possibly create a cooling problem. The motor of course will never go on plane. Just 2 to 3MPH trolling is all..I think it will still pump water and cool just fine at low speed. But wanted to see what the more informed have to say. My transom is definitely a long transom..I would think it might be a problem if I had to run it on plane..But just trolling I am hoping it will be fine. I will post a pic later today..Thanks

Lower Unit (LW) will need to stay in the water at all times. (For over revving and coolant water/lubrication) If your using the existing transom and not on a plane the water should be quite high so I wouldn't think it would be a problem. And like Racer say's, aftermarket adjustable brackets are available.

My main motor is a long shaft and my kicker is a short shaft. The transom cutout is wide enough that the kickers clamped on the cutout same as main motor. While under way with the kicker, there is plenty of water over the cav plate to keep it pumping without issues ! If it were up on plane then there would be a problem. At trolling speeds of 6 mph or less the water intake on the kicker is well below the water.. Check yours and you will probably find the same thing. Being in Walleye country there is a bunch of trolling going on....very common to see short shaft small kickers along side long shaft main motors. You just need to check it out to be sure.

My kicker is mounted so that when on the plane with main motor the skeg is about an inch into the water. When using the kicker its in well over the cav plate .

The bracket was one of them raise and lower things but I didnt need to , and it was about a foot long sticking out the back with 20kg of kicker bouncing around on gravel roads ( I had visions of my kicker cartwheeling solo down the road in my rear view mirror ).......so I "abbreviated" it .....works good 😁

my shor shaft Merc sits next to my long shaft ETEC and because the V transom slopes up towards the outside edge my kicker rides perfectly for trolling

I have never ran a kicker trolling motor before. Here is a pic of what I have. Another question. Do you usually run the main motor down or up when trolling? I would think down as that would also aid in steering. The main motor kinda acting as a steering rudder in conjunction with the small kicker..

I made a linkage to mate the two together. Seems to work good.

cav plate looks like it is lined up with the bottom so you should be OK with the weight of both motors hanging on the back... check for a good pee stream if motor has one .

motor down may help steering in windy situation I run motor down .....with no linkage on my set up I use the big guy the steer with the kicker pushing straight
