ok now i have bought a 1996 225 xl motor and i was curious what ppl thought of the motor and what type of problems they may have thanks

If you checked it out to ensure that the compression is good, that the lower unit does not have water infiltration, that there are no signs of overheating discoloration on the motor, and it sounds good when running at idle and WOT, you probably have a GOOD motor. Condition of a USED motor is a much more important consideration than any reported repair history of a particular brand or model motor. Just my thoughts...

BAD that you bought it first, then started to ask.

GOOD That it is a pretty decent engine.
