Ok I got the new impeller on I found some parts not in my service manual

One is hard plastic that goes over the lower gearcase shaft(on top of the shaft pointing up) the second is rubber that goes on top of the plastic. I look at the 96 75hp engine it shows no things like this. the 85-125hp 84-89 shows these being a crankshaft spine seal retainer and a drive shaft spline seal. So what do these parts do should I put them over the shaft then install the lower gear case back on. Should I stop and get some help? If these have fallen off would I need to take the engine apart. I put the boat gear lever forward,unbolted the shift linkage,droped the lower case,installed the new impeller with grease. Now I am ready to proceed
